Des Crofton is a corporate communications advisor with over 35 years of experience helping organisations across Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific communicate effectively. Originally from Canada, he began his career in advertising, rising to become a creative director before moving to Hong Kong to join an American advertising agency.
He then went on to establish his own corporate communications freelance business in Hong Kong before moving in-house to Hang Seng Bank and HSBC, where he worked closely with senior leadership on annual reports, executive speeches and video scripts.
He subsequently joined Edelman, the world’s largest PR agency, where he led one of the firm’s business practices, advising clients including Microsoft, Siemens, Daiwa Securities Group, and Starbucks. During this time, he developed extensive experience in reputation management and crisis communications, including China’s tainted milk scandal in 2008.
Returning to independent consulting, Des has since partnered with leading organisations such as Gammon Construction, MTR, CITIC Limited, Power Assets, Hysan, Towngas, and universities such as HKUST and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
His work focuses on financial and sustainability reporting, corporate publications, websites, and video scripting, with a particular passion for executive speechwriting.
While most of his work is for clients based in Hong Kong, Des brings valuable insights to international companies wishing to enter the Greater China market.

Annual Reports
I have written annual and interim reports for listed companies including MTR, Power Assets Holdings and Towngas China. My work covers management discussion and analysis (MD&A), CEO and Chairman’s statements, and the development of overarching report themes that reflect a company’s strategy, achievements and long-term vision.
Whether working from interviews, briefing notes or existing drafts, I create clear, engaging content tailored to investors and other stakeholders. I also provide meticulous proofreading of final artwork to ensure every detail is accurate before publication.
